About Department

The Department of Civil Engineering started in the year 2011 and is offering 4 year B.Tech program in Civil Engineering. The first four batches of students acquired B.Tech Degree from the University of Calicut. In 2015 as the Institution changed the affiliation to the newly formed Kerala Technological University, the students joined from that year onwards are acquiring degree from the APJAK Technological University (APJAKTU). The department provides facilities for the Value Added Courses, through which the eligible students can acquire B.Tech Honours Degree and/or B.Tech Minor degree in Civil Engineering. The department got NBA accreditation for 3 academic years from 2022-2023 to 2025-2026. Presently, the department has 17 well qualified, sincere and dedicated faculty members and 5 technically qualified supporting staff. The Department has established a state-of-the-art experimental facilities and laboratories in different fields of Civil Engineering. The Department strongly believes in continuous efforts to strive for excellence by exploring new frontiers of knowledge, imparting the latest technical knowledge to the students and conducting high quality research.

Message from HoD

Civil Engineering is the mother of all Engineering branches. It therefore makes it essential for the civil engineers to be the cause for development. The teaching learning process in the department is fully under outcome-based education framework. The department is also offering professional consultancy in civil engineering to the needy clients in the field. It has strong, well-qualified, dedicated, sincere and dynamic faculty as well as technical staff in different areas of specialization. Department takes the moral and social responsibility to imbibe the state-of-the-art technological information to the students, the harbingers for tomorrow’s nation building. Traditionally, civil engineering has been catering to the basic needs of the civil society, serving to the public at large. Keeping this legacy, we simply do not produce engineers, but shape a new generation of social engineers, with commitment and concern for the marginalised human beings. The faculty transfer their knowledge and expertise to the students by means of advanced teaching aids to mould them to be competent in the fast-changing information age.

In order to promote the social commitment, leadership qualities and organisational skills beyond the curricular activities, students are encouraged to perform co-curricular and extra-curricular activities within and outside the college. To facilitate this, professional society students’ chapter (IEI Student chapter) and department technical association (CETA) are established. The department is taking effort to develop entrepreneurial skills in students, so that they would drive the spirit of growth of our economy and would be able to generate employment opportunities for other qualified and skilled youth also. The strong bond between students and faculty members is remarkable and help our students to show meritorious performance in academics, technical, sports and cultural activities at institutional and University level. We have a serene campus in the mofussil outskirts, away from the din and bustle of the restless city. The students have a real life here, not just a campus. read more close

Programme Outcomes (PO)
  • Engineering knowledge: Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems.
  • Problem analysis: Identify, formulate, review research literature, and analyze complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering sciences.    
  • Design/development of solutions: Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration for the public health and safety, and the cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.
  • Conduct Investigations of complex problems: Use research-based knowledge and research methods including design of experiments, analysis, and interpretation of data, and synthesis of the information to provide valid conclusions.
  • Modern tool usage: “Create, select, and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering and IT tools including prediction and modeling to complex engineering activities with an understanding of the limitations.”     
  • The engineer and society: Apply reasoning informed by the contextual knowledge to assess societal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to the professional engineering practice.

  • Application of engineering knowledge: Able to identify and provide solutions to problems faced by the community and guiding towards sustainable development by using theoretical and conceptual knowledge of engineering sciences.
  • Real-world application: Provide recommendations to real-world civil engineering problems, focusing on economy, society and environment by conducting laboratory experiments/field investigations.
  • Project management: Demonstrate professional ethics and implement the principles of project management to lead the project execution as per the design requirement, with the use of advanced engineering tools and contemporary skills.
